YPN hosting IESO tour for young members

November 6, 2017

Have you ever wanted to see the IESO control room? The Society of United Professionals’ Young Professionals Network (YPN) is offering a chance to get a glimpse inside the nerve centre of Ontario’s energy system.

If you join the tour of the Independent Electricity System Operator (IESO) you’ll find out how Ontario balances load and generation in real-time 24/7/365 to maintain and operate one of the most reliable electricity grids in the entire world. The electricity market in Ontario accounts for more than $14 billion in transactions annually and every dollar of that flows through the IESO.

“I’m excited to see the infamous control room,” said Emily Booth, a Hydro One Local member and member of the YPN steering committee. “It’s where you can view the pulse of the entire electricity system of Ontario at a single glance.”

This November 23rd tour costs $5 and includes a briefing from the experts at IESO, a light lunch (vegetarian, Halal and gluten-free options available), and transportation from a nearby GO Station or parking lot. Space is limited so follow the RSVP link to book your spot and get all of the details.

The tour is organized by the YPN steering committee and is open to all members 35 years and younger on a first-come, first-served basis. For members who have already signed up, please note that the event web page has new details about transportation.
